However, to ensure the party is a success, you must have engaging games and activities. If you want kids to have a good time at your party, you have to plan plenty of kids birthday party games that will get them excited.
What are the best games for these cute kiddie parties? Read up and get some ideas so the next time you throw a party it will be a blast!
Ages 3-5
- Limbo
All you need is some upbeat music and a limbo stick. Kids need to limbo under the stick without touching it or they are out. Let’s see how “low can you go”. - Pin the Tail On the Donkey
This is a classic game that you can’t go wrong with. Put up a poster size picture of a donkey. Blind fold the children and see if they can stick the donkey’s place in the right place.

Pin The Tail
- Copycat
This is one silly game as the children simply copy each other’s movements. So simple even very young children can join in. - Freeze Dancing
Put on some lively music and have everyone dance. When the music stops, everyone has to freeze in their place. - Birthday Hunt
Hide pictures of birthday cakes all over the house. Then turn off the lights and have the kids go hunting with torch lights. The one that finds the most number of cakes is declared the winner.

Birthday Hunt - Birthday Picture Bingo
This game is sure to be a hit. You can buy M&M’s to use as markers. Get ready a bunch of cheap prizes to be given away. It’s also one way to get everybody to sit down before the cake is served.

Birthday Picture Bingo
Ages 6-7
- Charades and Pictionary
Let the kids act out or draw cartoon characters, songs or animals and make sure they don’t talk!

- Dress Up Relay
This is a relay race where the kids get to dress up in hilarious clothes and race against each other to the finish line. - Lefty’s Forgotten Birthday
It is almost like “Pass The Parcel” except there is no music and the kids get to keep the present if it ends up on their lap. What you do is read the story and the kids have to listen the words “right” or “left” to know where to pass the gift to.

Lefty’s Forgotten Birthday - Break The Pinata
Every kid loves a pinata party! They just have to break the pinata open to get all those candies inside. - Prize Fishing
Make a “fishing rod” with a magnet attached to the end of the line. Cut out fish shapes from cardboard, paper or old cereal boxes. Slide giant paper clips to the fishes so they can be “fished” by the magnet. Write on each fish a prize to be won. - Chocolate Game
Everyone sits in a circle. An unopen chocolate bar is placed in the middle. There is also a knife, a fork and a glove. Each person takes a turn to roll a die. If they roll the number 6, they get to eat the chocolate bar. However, they must first put on the glove. The chocolate must be eaten with the fork and knife. As that person scrambles to eat, the die continues to be passed on from one person to another. If someone else rolls number 6 on the die, the person must stop eating and pass on the glove, knife, fork and privilege to eat to the other “lucky 6″ person.
Ages 8-9
- Scavenger and Treasure Hunts
Break the children up into groups. Either give them a list of things to find or give them clues that will lead them to a treasure. - Now You See Me, Now You Don’t
Test your guests to see if they were paying attention to the birthday kid. Have the birthday kid leave the room then surprise everyone with a pop quiz. See if they remember what the birthday girl looked like.

Now You See Me, Now You Don’t - Finish My Phrase
A list of unfinished phrases is given out and players have to guess how the birthday kid might finish the phrases.

Finish My Phrase - Water Balloons
Kids would absolutely love a water balloon fight. Another alternative would be to give each pair of children a towel. Holding the towel between them, they have to toss the water balloon to each other using the towel. Obviously you need to be outdoors for this activity. Don’t forget to tell your guest to bring an extra change of clothes. - Don’t Laugh
All the kids sit in a circle. One person becomes “it” and tries to make everyone laugh. However, no laughing is allowed. The first person to laugh becomes “it”. A person can make funny faces, funny sounds or do funny things to make others laugh but he/she cannot resort to tickling. The other kids are not allowed to close their eyes or look away. - I Love My Neighbor
Everyone has a place to sit except for one person. The person standing will say something like “I love my neighbor except those who wear red”. Then all those who are wearing anything red, must get up and find another seat. Meanwhile, the person standing will try to grab a seat too.
Tweens and Teens
- Who Knows The Birthday Star?
A questionnaire that tests how well you know the birthday kid. Can be used as an icebreaker game.

Who Knows The Birthday Star? - Birthday Bingo
Everybody loves a classic bingo game. Get bingo cards printed with birthday items. You can easily prepare this game with a Birthday Bingo Card Generator

Birthday Bingo - Riddle Me This
Print out a sheet of riddles and brain teasers for the guests to solve. You can customize the questions, for example “Something of Ann’s that goes up but never comes down”.

Riddle Me This! - Who’s Behind The Blanket
Divide your guests into 2 groups. Have 2 people hold up a blanket or a large sheet between the 2 groups. Make sure the groups can’t see each other. Each group will choose one representative to go up to the blanket. On the count of 3, the blanket will be dropped. The group representatives must call out the name of the representative on the other side of the blanket. The one that calls out first wins. - Pop Songs Charade
Children at this age are usually into pop music. Why not make a list of popular hit songs for a game of charades. - Truth, Truth, Lie
Everyone is given a piece of paper. They have to write 3 things about themselves. However, out of the three, one is a lie. As they read out to the group what they have written, the group has to guess which is the lie.
